    Your role at St John of God Health Care

    This position is responsible for completion of coding audits and provision of coding education to all SJG Hospitals to ensure accurate ICD-10-AM code assignment for data quality, benchmarking and funding. This position is also responsible for conducting and participating in audits based on health fund contracts, and the development of a contemporary coding education framework.

    The Position

    • Identify and set out short, medium term and longer term training needs of the organisation based on outcome from Audits (both internal and external), research with stakeholders at hospitals and input from clinical documentation reviews.
    • Plan, develop and implement ongoing coding education to clinical coding caregivers across SJGHC hospitals ensuring programs enable the growth and development of both new and existing team members.
    • Provide coding advice to clinical coders across all SJGHC hospitals.
    • Collaborate with SJGHC Coding Auditor/Educators to coordinate audit and education cycle to identify areas for improvement and skill building with the objective of continually improving coding accuracy and optimising revenue.
    • Identify and coordinate data related opportunities for improving coding accuracy i.e. PICQ, standard audit reports of error DRGs and HCP/State Health Department data edits.
    • Develop and support “grow our own” training programs for Coders, CDS and HIM roles as appropriate
    • Develop and implement a coding audit framework
    • Perform coding audits to ensure compliance with the Australian Coding Standards.
    • Perform coding audits to optimize revenue
    • Conduct first line revenue assurance auditing program.
    • Identify clinical documentation deficiencies during coding audit and provide documentation opportunity recommendations to the Clinical Documentation Specialists (CDS).
    • Maintain coding skills by regular completion of clinical coding.
    • Participate in other clinical coding functions as required, including statutory data reporting.
    • Support the Health Fund team in assessing health fund DRG audit queries and identify and implement process improvement/education.

    You will have a minimum 5 years experience coding preferably at a tertiary level hospital, experience using the current ICD-10-AM Edition in the Australian Health Sector, experience in reviewing / auditing clinical coding along with an understanding of Diagnostic Related Groups (DRGs)

    To succeed you will possess a Bachelor of Health Information Management (or equivalent tertiary qualification) or Clinical Coding qualification and be eligible for full HIMAA membership.

    • Salary $115,405 to $128,198 + 11% Superannuation
    • Permanent full time position working 76 hours a fortnight
