    The Role

    The Coding Specialist is a permanent, full-time role with hybrid work flexibility from our North Sydney HQ. This role sits within a professional team of health information and classification specialists, and health data technology solutions experts

    The successful candidate will be responsible for providing subject matter expertise, advice and support for our autocoding solution. You will be an integral part of a team passionate about leveraging quality clinical data to better enable our customers to track and improve the quality of patient care to provide better health outcomes and, secure funding from payers that accurately represents the activity conducted to provide an excellent standard of care for those patients.

    The Role in Practice

    Being the Coding Specialist and Champion for the autocoding solution, will mean supporting both internal and external customers and supporting the sales teams with your subject matter expertise. This will include:

    • Functioning as our expert rule writer according to Australian coding and classification standards, and working with experts internationally where other standards apply, for development and expansion of autocoding product
    • Helping develop and influence the product innovation roadmap.
    • Managing the development and delivery of product training and communications materials
    • Providing health information, classification, and clinical coding expertise as needed for other Beamtree product and/or service deliveries.
    • Remaining current on IHACPA guidelines, coding updates, and, classification and DRG changes for ICD-10-AM/ACHI/ACS and AR-DRG.
    • Remaining current on Hospital Acquired Complications (HACs) guidelines updates and changes as per the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health.
    • Undertaking accurate clinical coding by interpreting and abstracting relevant clinical information from medical records and other clinical information systems.
    • Being the internal advocate for the external customer, so that they are successful, including responding to their queries and liaising with colleagues to find the best solutions.

    Who Are You?

    To be successful in this role, you will have:

    • Minimum of 10 years Health Information Management/clinical coding experience with exposure to a diverse casemix.
    • Experience with implementation of digital systems in health e.g., PAS, eMR systems and/or technical understanding or interest in set up, development or reporting from administrative and clinical systems, with a technical aptitude to learn new systems.
    • Comprehensive knowledge, experience, and proficiency in clinical classification of medical records in ICD-10-AM/ACHI/ACS and AR-DRG, and Activity Based Funding principles in a digital environment.
    • Relevant Health Information Management or clinical coding qualifications.
    • Eligible for full membership to the Health Information Management Association of Australia (HIMAA).
    • La Trobe University Auditing Course qualifications or equivalent tertiary qualifications highly desirable.
    • Previous auditing, training and education experience in coding (highly desirable).
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including confidence delivering presentations and building rapport.
    • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills, being process-oriented and able to bring structure to ambiguous problems.
    • Ability to self-manage to successfully deliver what’s required to meet customer requirements, needs of your Beamtree colleagues, and corporate strategic initiatives, including managing concurrent activities of a diverse nature from multiple business units, and setting appropriate priorities to meet deadlines.
    • Willingness to travel as required.
